DOWNTOWN : Three ‘Outstanding Women’ Honored
Three women who work Downtown were honored last week by Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alatorre as “Outstanding Woman Making It Happen” for Women’s History Month.
Ellie Vargas-Page, principal at Ninth Street Elementary School, was chosen for creating a support team for the school from residents and businesses, said Linda Chavez of Alatorre’s office.
Beth Tishler, executive director and founder of Inner-City Arts, was selected for her dedication to bringing multicultural arts and work space to 5,000 inner-city children, Chavez said.
Riga Petlin Gerrish, a Downtown artist and community activist, was honored for her support of the Ninth Street Elementary School, the Inner-City Arts, and for her role in launching the Downtown Arts Development Assn.
The women were honored with a City Hall ceremony and luncheon at an Olvera Street restaurant.
