Countywide : Free Breast-Cancer Screenings Planned
One in seven Orange County women develop breast cancer, according to the National Cancer Institute.
The statistic puts the county at the top of the nation’s ratio of breast-cancer cases, and the county’s three YWCAs are hoping to bring the number down by launching a free cancer-screening program--Encore Plus--for women 50 and older who cannot afford a mammogram.
Women who qualify for the free screening are urged to go to one of the several sites where nurses and X-ray technicians will be conducting the early breast-cancer detection exams.
Sites and dates for the screenings are:
* Maple Senior Center, 701 S. Lemon St., Fullerton, Wednesday.
* Fullerton Senior Center, 340 W. Commonwealth Ave., Fullerton, April 10.
* West Anaheim Senior Center, 1800 W. Ball Road, Anaheim, May 4.
* Placentia Senior Center, 143 S. Bradford, Placentia, May 24.
* Anaheim Senior Center, 280 E. Lincoln Ave., Anaheim, May 31.
