Services Set for Wendell T. Hill Jr.
ORANGE — Memorial services will be held later this week for Wendell T. Hill Jr., the former chief pharmacist at what was then known as Orange County Medical Center, who died of cancer March 18 in Washington. He was 70.
Hill, who completed his master’s and doctoral work at USC, worked at Orange County Medical Center, now known as UCI Medical Center, in the 1950s and 1960s. He also taught at USC and UCLA.
In 1982, Hill was named alumnus of the year by USC. He also served as president of the California Society of Hospital Pharmacy.
In the 1970s, he moved to Detroit, where he was director of pharmaceutical services at Detroit General Hospital and worked as an associate professor of pharmacy at Wayne State University.
In 1977, Hill moved to Washington and became dean of Howard University’s College of Pharmacy, where he stayed until he retired in 1994. While at Howard, Hill was credited with enabling the college to obtain accreditation from the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education and with establishing the school’s doctoral program.
Hill is survived by his wife, Marcella Hill of Washington; his two sons, Wendell Talbot Hill III of Greenbelt, Md., and Philip Eliot Hill of Long Beach; and his mother, Mildred Rivers of Sewell, N.J.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church, 1139 E. Walnut St., in Orange. He will be buried at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana.
