NHL ROUNDUP : There’s No Killing the Penalty for Islanders in Loss to Bruins

The New York Islanders kept trying to kill a penalty Thursday night, and it just kept killing them.

Vladimir Malakhov received a major penalty for high-sticking Boston’s Adam Oates in the first period, and by the time the penalty was served the Bruins had three goals en route to a 3-2 victory.

“The penalty was the only part of the game that was tough for us,” said Islander forward Derek King, whose third-period power-play goal made the score close.

Cam Neely, Sandy Mogan and Steve Leach scored within 4:10.

It was the second time New York shot itself in the foot lately.

On March 14 in Hartford, Brett Lindros took a high-sticking major, and the Whalers scored three times on the penalty.

New Jersey 4, Philadelphia 3--Bill Guerin and Sergei Brylin each had a goal and an assist for the Devils in winning at Philadelphia.

Detroit 3, Dallas 2--Sergei Fedorov had a goal and an assist as the Red Wings’ won at home.

Buffalo 7, Ottawa 0--Donald Audette had a hat trick to lead the Sabres to a victory at Buffalo.
