World IN BRIEF : PAKISTAN : Drug Suspects’ Wives Contest Extradition

The wives of two alleged drug barons, Haji Mirza Mohammed Iqbal Baig and Mohammed Anwar Khattak, challenged a Lahore court ruling that cleared the way for their husbands’ extradition to the United States. The women appealed to the Supreme Court, saying a 1972 law bars extradition until an accused person has been acquitted or completed a sentence, or charges have been dropped. The men were serving five-year jail terms and had at least two other cases pending against them in Pakistan, their lawyer said.
