PREP ROUNDUP : Motschman’s Victories Spark Fountain Valley

Fountain Valley won all three relay events to help secure the tri-meet victory over Capistrano Valley and Foothill in nonleague girls’ swimming Friday.

Christine Motschman, who swam on the winning 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay, recorded the county’s second fastest 100 butterfly time this season as she out-touched Cathy Carone of Capistrano Valley in 59.80 seconds. Carone finished in 59.87.

Capistrano Valley finished with 154 points and Foothill had 110.

In other nonleague girls’ swimming:

Irvine 104, Villa Park 66--Lana Kraus took first in the 50 freestyle in 25.87, and the 100 freestyle in 56.77 for third-ranked Irvine (7-0). Jenny Michel won the 200 freestyle (2:08.82) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.57) for Villa Park.

Santa Margarita 97, Laguna Hills 73--Katie Cramm placed first in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and was the anchor on the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay to lead Santa Margarita.

In nonleague boys’ swimming:

Buena Park 90, Canyon 80--Jeff Hamilton won the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and was on the winning 400 freestyle relay team for Canyon (6-2).

Irvine 105, Villa Park 65--Steve Ronson and Doug Tabbert each won two events for No. 2 Irvine (7-0). Ronson took first in the 100 freestyle (47.47) and the 100 backstroke (54.3). Tabbert won the 200 freestyle (1:51.47) and 500 freestyle (5:02.37). No. 7 Villa Park is 7-2, losing to Foothill on Wednesday.

Laguna Hills 95, Santa Margarita 75--Matt Kwok was a double winner in the 200 individual medley (2:07.8) and the 100 freestyle (48.1) and anchored the Hawks’ winning 200 freestyle relay team (1:31.5).

In Sea View League golf:

Newport Harbor 191, Irvine 209--Morgan Anderson shot a three-under-par 33 to medal for Newport Harbor (8-3, 3-3), and teammate Bill Collopy had a one-under 35 at Rancho San Joaquin.
