Thousand Oaks-based Amgen Inc. plans to hire 300 to 400 workers this year to complete construction of a 160,000-square-foot office building on its 100-acre campus, company officials said.

The biotech firm is also in the process of buying three adjacent buildings on 17 acres on Rancho Conejo Road.

“We are running out of office space,” spokesman David Kaye said. “It is a nice problem to have.”

Amgen officials and officials at the neighboring Adventist Media Center hope to enter escrow soon on the 17 acres.

Kaye, who declined to disclose the purchase price, said Amgen hopes to move some of its employees into the Adventist building within six months.

While Amgen officials have not yet decided who will move into the purchased buildings, Kaye said most of the 300 workers in a Westlake Village office will be transferred to Thousand Oaks.

Adventist Media Center officials said they may move the 125 workers out of the area and possibly out of the state.

“We will move the media center somewhere, but we don’t know where yet,” said Glenn Aufderhar, president of the media center.

The media center produces radio and television programs, including “It Is Written,” which is viewed by 50 million people worldwide, Aufderhar said.
