The first two of four modular units that will become the new Saticoy library were delivered last week.

Delivery of the units is expected to be completed by Monday, library officials said.

The old Saticoy Library was demolished in 1991, and the library moved into a small room in the city’s community center, where it is still in operation.

It consists of 900 books on several carts that are wheeled out of storage the 12 hours a week the library is open. It has no circulation hookup, no catalogue access to other Ventura County collections and no place to sit.

The new library, which will be on the south side of Violeta Street west of Campanula Avenue, will be equipped with a computerized catalogue system and ample seating. Thousands of books will be brought out of storage to fill the shelves, which will hold up to 18,000 volumes.

The library is being funded with $150,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant funds and is expected to open its doors to the public in July.
