WESTSIDE : State Board Revokes Psychologist’s License

The state Board of Psychology revoked the license of a West Los Angeles psychologist Friday after he refused to submit to a board-ordered psychiatric examination.

A psychologist and investigator for the board interviewed Sonny Goldberg and found him likely to be suffering from a mental illness characterized by paranoid delusions, confused thinking, abnormal emotional reactions and disturbed behavior, said Tom O’Connor, executive officer of the board, which is part of the Department of Consumer Affairs.

“If the board has reasonable cause to suspect that a licensee may be mentally impaired, it has the authority to compel that licensee to submit to a psychiatric evaluation,” O’Connor said.

“If the licensee fails to undergo the evaluation, the board must do what it can to protect the health and welfare of patients,” O’Connor said.

Goldberg refused to take a board-ordered psychiatric examination and then did not contest noncompliance charges the board filed, O’Connor said.
