Trial of Ex-Dictator of Malawi Postponed

BLANTYRE, Malawi —
The murder trial of Malawi’s ousted dictator was adjourned for a week after medical experts determined he was too ill and upset over the charges to come to court Monday.
Judge Mackson Mkandawire adjourned proceedings until next Tuesday, after hearing from a doctor and nurse on the first day of H. Kamuzu Banda’s trial and considering a defense request for more time to review evidence.
Prosecutors appeared to retreat from their earlier insistence that Banda, in his 90s and recovering from brain surgery, come to court.
