Dallas Boychuk, the lead assistant women’s basketball coach for Big Ten co-champion Purdue, will be the new head coach at Long Beach State, school sources confirmed Thursday. Boychuk will be introduced today at a 3 p.m. news conference in the Pyramid.

Boychuk, 31, is expected to sign a four-year contract to replace Glenn McDonald, who was reassigned within the athletic department March 13.

Boychuk will earn a base salary of $72,000 but incentives, a shoe contract and operation of summer camps could make her more than $110,000 annually.

A native of Westport, Conn., Boychuk was an assistant at Louisville for two years before being hired by Purdue Coach Lin Dunn. Boychuk also was an assistant at Stetson, her alma mater, and has coached at the high school level.

Long Beach was fifth in the Big West Conference under McDonald last season, finishing 13-14 overall, 10-8 in the conference. There were only three seniors on the team.

Boychuk was the second person offered the job. Maine Coach Joanne Palombo-McCallie declined on April 17.

The Boilermakers’ recruiting coordinator, Boychuk has signed many of the nation’s best prep players during the last three years.

Purdue, 24-8 overall and 13-3 in the Big Ten, shared the conference title with Penn State and advanced to the West Regional final of the NCAA tournament. The Boilermakers also won the conference title the previous season and qualified for the Final Four.
