Business is good in Moorpark, the latest sales tax reports show.

Moorpark had an 18% jump in sales tax revenue in 1994 contrasted with the previous year, said Steven Hayes, the city’s economic development director.

Hayes attributed the increase to heavy business in stores along Los Angeles Avenue, including the McDonald’s and Carl’s Jr. fast-food restaurants and the Kmart store.

The city netted nearly $1 million in sales tax revenue in 1994, an increase of more than $150,000 from 1993, he said.

Plans to build a multiscreen movie theater and a supermarket next to the Kmart this year are expected to boost revenue by about $54,000 in the first year of operation. Over a 20-year period, city officials expect the new development to bring in $4.5 million in sales tax revenue, Hayes said.
