Eric Valent

Canyon, Senior

Baseball/Center fielder

The professional scouts who are trying to decide whether Valent, a UCLA signee, is worth taking a chance on in the draft have been getting quite a show recently. Valent had 10 consecutive hits in three games, breaking the Canyon record of nine set by Rob Deer in 1979. Valent reached base 12 times in a row, falling one short of Deer’s record. Valent finally was retired in his fourth at-bat in a 7-2 victory over El Modena Friday, flying out on a 2-and-1 pitch high in the strike zone. “At that point he wasn’t looking for a walk,” Coach Mike Najera said. “So he took a good hack at it.”
