NEWPORT BEACH : Schools Enrolling Kindergartners for Fall
The Newport-Mesa Unified School District will have its kindergarten preregistration through today for the fall term.
Newport Beach and Costa Mesa parents should call their neighborhood schools to make appointments for registration, said Susan Despenas, director of elementary education. Some schools will offer evening registration, and all are listed in the white pages of the telephone book under Newport-Mesa Unified School District.
Children who will be 5 years old by Dec. 2 are eligible to enter kindergarten. Parents must show a health checkup report or physician-signed waiver for each student entering the district.
Low-income families may be eligible for state-provided, free Child Health and Disability Prevention physical exams. To determine eligibility and make appointments for the free exams, call (800) 564-8448.
Parents must also show proof of the child’s age and up-to-date immunization cards for each child. Children must be inoculated against polio, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, measles, rubella, mumps and tuberculosis.
