No One’s Defending America’s Cup Defender

The New Zealand media and public have been waiting for Dennis Conner’s most recent rules for the final of the America’s Cup. I guess they should be thankful that at least he is showing his true lack of sportsmanship before the final starts and not halfway through, as has been his paradigm.

Why don’t the America’s Cup trustees just give Dennis the Cup now, because even if he doesn’t win after nine races, no doubt the rules will be changed again to accommodate him. It would not surprise me to see him racing in the catamaran again.

What sort of lesson is this sending to our children--that winning is all there is, that if you fear you are going to lose, then you must do everything within your means to win even if those means are outside the rules? That if you’re loud enough and self-important enough and have all the right connections, you can do what you want, regardless of any sense of honor?
