Aside from scattered showers and party cloudy skies, Orange County and Southern California will be spared a storm system that battered northern Texas over the weekend, killing at least 15 people and triggering flash flooding.

Driven by 70-m.p.h. winds, the storm skirted California Saturday as it began drifting toward Kansas and the Dakotas. Parts of Southern California reported isolated showers, cloudy skies and chilly temperatures, said meteorologist Curtis Brack of WeatherData Inc., a service that provides weather information for The Times.

During the next few days, temperatures are expected to be in the 60s and could reach the low 70s in Orange County and the rest of Southern California, Brack said. Overnight lows will be in the 40s and 50s, he said.

“California’s on the west side of the storm system,” Brack said. “After this, we expect Southern California to be dry for the rest of the week, but it might be a little cooler than normal.”

Orange County residents also can expect patchy night and morning fog.
