Agassi, Chang Set Up Another Duel

Andre Agassi set up a showdown with fellow American Michael Chang by defeating Magnus Larsson, 6-4, 6-4, Saturday in the semifinals of the AT&T; Challenge tennis tournament in Atlanta. Second-seeded Chang downed fourth-seeded Todd Martin, 6-3, 6-0, earlier. Agassi and defending champion Chang have met 10 times with Agassi leading the series, 8-2. Agassi has won both their matches on clay, the surface in Atlanta.

Switzerland’s 14-year-old Martina Hingis earned her first pro final by beating Germany’s Anke Huber, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3, in the semifinals of the Citizen Cup in Hamburg, Germany. She will face Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez, who beat Magdalena Maleeva, 6-0, 6-0. . . . Michael Stich, who hasn’t won a tournament this year, reached the final of the BMW Open, defeating Marcelo Filippini of Uruguay, 6-4, 6-4, in Munich, Germany. Stich will meet Wayne Ferreira, who defeated Spain’s Alex Corretja, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. . . . The third-seeded University of San Diego defeated second-seeded Nevada Las Vegas, 4-1, and top-seeded California defeated fifth-seeded UC Irvine, 4-2, in the semifinals of the NCAA Region 8 tournament at UCLA. The winner of today’s final receives a berth in the NCAA championships.
