BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Anderson to Miss a Start

Left-hander Brian Anderson, who suffered a strained left biceps Friday night, will probably miss one start and return to the rotation Saturday in Kansas City. The Angels are off Monday, so they will skip Anderson’s spot and Mark Langston, Scott Sanderson and Shawn Boskie will pitch in the three-game series against Texas that begins Tuesday night.

Anderson, examined Saturday by trainer Ned Bergert, said his arm felt “much better” than he thought it would Saturday morning.

“I expected it to be really stiff, but it’s not that bad,” said Anderson, who left after throwing an 0-2 fastball to Mike Blowers leading off the fifth inning. “I felt a little something on my last warm-up pitch, and then didn’t feel anything on the first pitch, which was a curve. But when I opened up a little too much on the fastball he fouled off, I really felt it go.”

Anderson threw one more pitch to Blowers, “just to make sure it was still attached,” and then left the game.

“There’s a deep soreness in there, kind of like a deep bruise,” he said, “but with a little treatment, I’m pretty sure I’ll be ready to go in Kansas City.”

Jorge Fabregas, who was optioned Friday night to Vancouver, worked out with the Angels Saturday afternoon before clearing out his locker. He knew he would be going back to the minors when Greg Myers (broken toe) returned from the disabled list, but was disappointed nonetheless.

“I could’ve hit .500 and I’d still be going down,” he said, “but it’s hard any time you get sent down. I just wanted to make the decision as tough on (Manager Marcel Lachemann) as possible.

“But my goal is to be the front-line catcher next year, so I guess it’s best that I go to Vancouver and catch every day so I can get better.”

Fabregas had only two hits in 11 at-bats, but drove in three runs.
