ROUNDUP : Greathouse Is Merely Good in a 5-0 Victory for Buena

Nicole Greathouse wasn’t at her best but she pitched a six-hitter Saturday as Buena High knocked off Camarillo, 5-0, in the third-place game of the Thousand Oaks softball tournament.

Greathouse (13-2), who struck out three, frustrated the Scorpions by leaving runners stranded in every inning.

Buena (20-3-1), ranked ninth in The Times’ regional poll, broke open the game with four runs in the third inning. Greathouse broke a scoreless tie when she scored on a squeeze bunt by Shannon Prentice. Bevan Trueblood hit a three-run single later in the inning.

Jessica Mendoza had two hits for Camarillo (20-4-1), which is ranked second by The Times.

Palmdale 3, Highland 0--Kristy DeMarco had two hits, two runs batted in and scored the only run the Falcons (3-5, 11-10) needed in a Golden League makeup game at Palmdale.

Jaime Hodges (4-8) pitched a two-hitter, struck out two and walked three for Palmdale.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

Glendale 4, St. Francis 3--Jon Walton scattered eight hits and three walks over six-plus innings in his second varsity start for the Dynamiters in a nonleague game at Glendale.

Chris Shelton tripled home a run in the first inning and pitched one inning to gain his second save for Glendale (10-9).

Dan Sereno drove in two runs for St. Francis (11-13).

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Valley 9, Glendale 4--George Dorado pitched a five-hitter, striking out 10 and walking two for the Monarchs in a Western State Conference game at Valley.

Glendale led, 4-0, when Valley’s Colyn Van Buren hit a three-run homer in the fourth.

Dorado (4-5) had an RBI double in a six-run sixth for Valley (11-29, 7-19).

Bakersfield 10, Canyons 2--Andy Bernard pitched a six-hitter, striking out six, and the Renegades locked up second place in the WSC South Division at Bakersfield.

Mark Martinez tripled and drove in three runs for Bakersfield (31-12, 19-7) and Richard Parra added a double and two RBIs.

Sylvio Paz had two hits and drove in a run for the Cougars (18-26, 14-12).

Hancock 11, Oxnard 5--The Bulldogs (28-15, 17-8) clinched the WSC North Division title at Oxnard.

Josh Silverstein had three hits and three RBIs, and Adam Basua added two hits for the Condors (23-10, 11-15).

Oxnard had won nine of its previous 11 games.

Victor Valley 10, Antelope Valley 4--Tim Boulware went five for five as the Rams defeated the Marauders in a Foothill Conference finale at Victor Valley.

Frank Maldenado added four hits and two RBIs for Victor Valley (19-22, 14-13).

Sophomore Todd Barnes hit a double in his final at-bat, extending his hitting streak to 29 games for the Marauders (19-17-1, 14-13). He finished with a .395 average.
