Cypress Falls Short in State Softball
Long Beach scored two runs in the third inning and beat Cypress, 2-0, in an elimination game Sunday at the State softball tournament at Riverside College.
Long Beach then beat Palomar, 1-0, in nine innings and then, 4-1, to win the State title.
Jennifer Jaime (27-0) picked up three complete-game victories Sunday, giving up one run and striking out 14 for the Vikings (41-3). Palomar finishes 36-7.
Cypress (50-10) managed four hits, including two by Alison Murphy, in the loss to Long Beach.
Debbie Goddu gave up four hits and two runs, both earned, to take the loss.
Goddu was selected to the all-tournament team, along with teammates Rockie Breig and Jenny Lopez.
