Newport Beach : Dunes Resort Seeking Name for Play Ship

A new, 30-foot play ship at Newport Dunes Aquatic Resort remains unchristened, and the private camp is holding a competition to name it.

The ship includes a mast, compass, ship’s wheel, boarding net, observation deck with banisters, portholes, galleys, two slides and mysterious niches.

It was designed to resemble The Swift, a boat that Newport Dunes founder Bill Evans bought from actor James Cagney in the 1950s. The Swift was used as a nautical museum when the camp opened in 1958.
