Profit Rises at Construction Giant: Fluor Corp. said its second-quarter earnings jumped 16%, because of an increased production at its core engineering and construction business. Irvine-based Fluor earned $55.3 million, or 66 cents per share, during the quarter ended April 30, compared to $47.7 million, or 58 cents per share, for the same period a year ago. Revenue was $2.2 billion, up 7% from $2.1 billion in 1994. Operating profit for Fluor Daniel, the engineering and construction business, jumped 6% because of increased work volume. But that was partially offset by rising costs to develop new business, the company said.
