STANTON : Council Votes to Join County Radio System

Joining other municipalities across the county, the City Council voted Tuesday to take part in a new radio communication system for law enforcement agencies.

“The issue here is we have been operating with an out-of-date system,” City Manager Terry Matz said. “The system was meant to serve fewer people and fewer radios.”

Matz was appointed Stanton’s representative to the board of directors that will operate the new system.

The existing network was built to accommodate a county population of 1.5 million people. Orange County’s current population is estimated at more than 2.5 million.

Stanton expects to pick up $581,000 of the $84-million project.
