FAA Allows Boeing 777 to Fly Longer Routes: The aircraft maker announced that federal regulators have granted permission for some of its new jumbo jets to fly longer routes, allowing them to cross the Atlantic and Pacific more directly. Seattle-based Boeing Co. said the Federal Aviation Administration approved the plane for extended twin-engine operations--which means it can travel as far as three hours from the nearest airport or emergency landing strip--when powered by Pratt & Whitney engines. Previously, the FAA has granted such approval for jetliners only after two years of service.
