Planning Panel Must Be Re-Established
* It is both appropriate and proper to commend Mayor Manuel Lopez for his strong stands in favor of the citizens of Oxnard.
His long tenure on both the Planning Commission and the City Council has given him the wisdom to know certain truths. Among others, Mayor Lopez was not in favor of removing the Planning Commission.
In getting rid of the Planning Commission, the council has given free rein to developers. The normal checks and balances that we all enjoyed previously between the commission and the council are no longer there.
Many previous council people and commissioners agree with Mayor Lopez. And some of them are submitting an initiative to Oxnard voters to establish a seven-member Planning Commission. I believe the people will respond positively.
