DANA POINT — Bob Canary said Thursday he has resigned as baseball coach at Dana Hills.
Canary has been the Dolphins’ varsity coach for 15 seasons. He will remain at the school as a teacher.
“It was in the best interest of everybody,” Canary said. “I need new challenges and I think the program needed someone else to accept the same challenge I did 15 years ago.”
The Dolphins were 167-173-6 under Canary and made the playoffs four of the last eight seasons. Dana Hills won the South Coast League title in 1991 and reached the Southern Section 2-A quarterfinals in 1978.
Canary said he plans to return to coaching.
“I won’t be away long,” he said. “I might end up an assistant or maybe coach lower-level teams.”
