SANTA ANA : Garage Sales May Be Rescheduled if It Rains
- Share via
Residents whose garage sales get rained out may reschedule them, the City Council declared this week.
A year ago, the city restricted garage sales to four weekends a year because some residents complained that they were unsightly and that people were essentially operating businesses disguised as garage sales.
But in March, rain fell on one of the sanctioned weekends, causing the cancellation of a number of scheduled sales.
But under an ordinance unanimously approved Monday by the City Council, in the future event of rain on a sanctioned garage sale weekend, the city manager may declare a subsequent weekend acceptable.
The city manager can declare such an alternate date if there has been a measurable amount of rain, as recorded by the National Weather Service.
The city will then notify neighborhood associations that residents can hold garage sales on the alternate weekend.
