POMONA : Police Probe Recommends Action Against 8 Officers

The Pomona Police Department is recommending that eight of the nine officers on an elite task force be disciplined, from written reprimands to firing, after an investigation found two separate incidents of on-duty misconduct.

The department’s internal affairs unit recommended firing three officers and possible suspension, demotion or written reprimands for the other five, said Police Chief Charles M. Heilman.

All eight were members of the Major Crimes Task Force, which investigated gangs and drugs.

“These individuals violated department rules and regulations,” Heilman said, but declined to comment on what wrongdoing the investigators found. Sources said the probe looked into allegations that the officers tampered with evidence, stole narcotics and falsified police reports.

All the officers have been on paid leave since the investigation started in April. They have until Friday to appeal.
