Authorities Seek Hit-Run Driver in Fatal Crash
SUN VALLEY — Authorities on Friday hunted for a motorist who reportedly fled after his 1992 Mercedes rammed another car on the Hollywood Freeway, fatally injuring the second driver.
A Mitsubishi Montero was heading north at about 4:20 a.m., and had just passed Roscoe Boulevard, when it was struck by the Mercedes “traveling at an extremely high rate of sped,” CHP Officer Dwight McDonald said.
The Montero reportedly rolled over, hit an embankment and toppled over the side of the freeway. The driver was thrown from the car and died a short time later, McDonald said.
The Mercedes bounced into the center divider, then traveled 500 to 600 feet until it came to rest in a construction area of the freeway, authorities said. The driver then got out and fled on foot.
The name of the fatally injured driver was not released. McDonald said authorities hope to file murder charges against the driver of the Mercedes if he is caught.
