SIMI VALLEY : Symphony to Play Mozart, Beethoven

Simi Valley’s only symphony is holding its third concert tonight. The year-old Santa Susana Symphony will perform Beethoven’s First Symphony, Mozart’s 40th, Ravel’s Pavane and a little-known Mozart work, Rondo K.386 for piano and orchestra.

Conductor Philippe Fanjeaud said his 24-member symphony will give a “gutsy” performance of the obscure piece.

“Unfortunately, the piano part did not totally match the orchestral score, so I had to rewrite the last 70 bars of the orchestra,” Fanjeaud said. “And believe me, rewriting Mozart is not the most comfortable thing to do.”
