CYPRESS : Businessman Named to School Board

Rick Gaede, a resident since 1988 and general manager of the Ramada Inn-Cypress, has been selected to fill a vacancy on the governing board of the Cypress School District.

The district’s board of trustees Wednesday night unanimously elected Gaede to fill the unexpired two years of Ventura Cornejo Jr., who resigned in late May because he is retiring. He had served on the board for almost 25 years.

The school board decided to fill the vacancy by appointment rather than to hold a special election. Fifteen people applied for the job, and school trustees interviewed the candidates Tuesday and Wednesday.

Gaede and his wife, Debbie, have two children, Ashley and Seth, who are students in the Cypress School District. They were honored by Cypress city government in 1993 as Family of the Year.

Gaede is a board member of the Cypress Chamber of Commerce, and he has been co-chairman the past three years of the chamber’s Business and Education Committee. Gaede is also a member of the Los Alamitos Chamber of Commerce, currently serving as president-elect.

Cypress School District Supt. William D. Eller said Gaede’s appointment is effective immediately.
