TOGETHER AGAIN: The Highwaymen--the country supergroup with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson--may have some competition soon. The recent Bakersfield concert reunion of California country legends Buck Owens and Merle Haggard has them thinking about a tour together--as a trio with Dwight Yoakam, a guest star at the show.
Haggard said before the show that the trio “could be very successful, I’ll tell you that. I think it has just as much appeal financially as the Highwaymen. And they don’t have a young, good-lookin’ guy in their group. That’s the only thing wrong with them.”
The Bakersfield show, which was the first time Owens and Haggard performed together in decades, was filmed for potential airing as a national TV special.
