SOUTH-CENTRAL : Free Workshop on Domestic Violence
A free workshop on what people should know if they fall victim to domestic violence is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Dunbar Hotel, 4225 S. Central Ave.
Topics to be discussed include how to obtain a restraining order, and the role of the police, district attorney’s office and courts.
The county’s 911 lines receive 70,000 reports of spousal abuse each year, said Cherie Lewis of the Legal Corps of Los Angeles, which is co-sponsoring the workshop with the Los Angeles County Bar Assn. Barristers.
“When you’re a victim of domestic violence, you’re not in the best frame of mind, so it’s important to know the system before there’s a problem,” Lewis said.
