The Urban Knights are a super- group assemblage featuring saxophonist Grover Washington Jr., pianist Ramsey Lewis and the former Weather Report, current Madonna rhythm team of drummer Omar Hakim and bassist Victor Bailey. Add the commercially proficient production touch of Maurice White, the vocal textures of the Emotions and expect to sell albums in bunches, which this release, aided by a summer tour, will surely do. Nothing here to trigger much musical interest, but perfectly appropriate for its logical audience--listeners eager to experience smooth and satiny sounds supported by unobtrusive, funk-based rhythms. This is contemporary jazz night music, best used as background accompaniment for weekend romancing.
