San Fernando Valley : CARFARE
So how is it that the Burbank schools are getting $900,000 in extra money as a gift from the city, and yet might have to pull money away from classroom supplies and computers?
Boils down to the $4,800 the school board members would lose in car allowances that they also had expected the city to pony up.
The Burbank City Council agreed Tuesday to spend a minimum of $900,000 in new funding to refurbish school buildings, on top of the $23 million the City Council promised earlier to repair and renovate the schools in the cash-strapped Burbank Unified School District. It also cut $4,800 in car allowances for trustees.
It’s not that the schools aren’t grateful. They are, Superintendent David Aponik said Thursday. On the other hand, he said, the district might have to shift money from classroom supplies and new computers for the students so the trustees can have their car cash.
