Tom Weiskopf shot his second consecutive three-under-par 69 to share the lead with Tommy Aaron after two rounds of the U.S. Senior Open Friday at Bethesda, Md.

Bob Murphy, Dave Stockton and Graham Marsh all shot 70s and were one stroke behind.

Weiskopf started with consecutive bogeys before moving up the leaderboard. It was an impressive performance, especially for a player who spends more time these days designing golf courses than playing on them.

“My first priority is not playing tournament golf,” said Weiskopf, who has skipped eight events on the senior tour this year. “It’s really more or less a hobby. I just don’t have the time to play full time.”

Aaron, who shot a 68, and Weiskopf reached the halfway point at six-under 138.

Hale Irwin was two shots behind after shooting a 68, tied with Isao Aoki, who had a 70. Lee Trevino (68), J.C. Snead (73) and Brian Barnes (72) were at 141.

Jack Nicklaus (71) and Raymond Floyd (72) were in a group at 142.

Club pro Larry Ringer, who shared the lead with Snead after shooting a bogey-free 68 in the opening round, could not pull off a proper encore. He had five bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey en route to an 80.

“What a difference a day makes,” Ringer said. “[Thursday] I played as well as I could play. Today I played absolutely as badly as I could play.”

Michelle McGann and Katie Peterson-Parker each shot a seven-under-par 65 to tie the tournament record and share the lead after the first round of the $550,000 Youngstown-Warren LPGA Classic in Warren, Ohio, where early morning rain held up play for 90 minutes.

Peterson-Parker, 28, made five consecutive birdies and had one bogey. She shot a 31 on the back nine, needing only 12 putts.

McGann, 25, birdied three of the first four holes in a bogey-free round.

“I’m very tired and my feet are soaking wet,” McGann said. “It was hard to get a feel for the greens. Nobody likes to play a course that wet. But what can you do?”

A thunderstorm dumped 2 1/2 inches of rain and suspended the second round of the FedEx-St. Jude Classic at Memphis, Tenn., with less than half the field finished. Jim Gallagher, playing in the sixth group off the 10th tee, was at 14 under after 35 holes and faced a 20-footer for birdie on the final hole when play was stopped.
