Mack Is Truckin’

Local rapper Mack 10, an Ice Cube protege, struck gold with his debut album, which is No. 6 on The Times’ Southern California pop album chart. It’s easily the hottest new rap album, making a grand entrance at No. 1 on the Southern California rap chart and placing No. 4 on the national chart. The success of “Mack 10” is no surprise. Because of his Ice Cube connection, it had been eagerly awaited in the rap community. The surprising debut was Alanis Morissette’s “Jagged Little Pill.” The album by this young Canadian singer came from out of nowhere to enter the Southern California pop chart at No. 10--and the national chart at No. 43.
