Katz’s Offer to Help Met With Scorn
* Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Sylmar) claims he is trying to save Orange County the cost of a special election by delaying the recall of Assembly Speaker Doris Allen (R-Cypress) until March of 1996 (“Democrat Seeks to Delay Recall Vote on Allen,” June 30). But if Katz really wants to help, he can save Orange County hundreds of millions by helping us in our privatization effort. As a first step, we must privatize Doris Allen.
Anyone who helps us return the Speaker to the private sector, by recalling Allen, will help the Republicans in the state Legislature pass privatization legislation, and speed the county’s recovery.
Allen said she abstained from the June privatization vote because she feared inflaming the Democrats. We need a Speaker who fears inflaming Orange County and the state of California.
Orange County to Katz: “Butt out.” We understand Doris Allen better than you do.

* What I do not understand is why the Republican voters of Huntington Beach would be unhappy about Doris Allen finding a way to empower herself and them in becoming Speaker, or who would want to recall her because of it.
