Cincinnati Red first baseman-outfielder Eric Anthony has a partially torn patellar tendon in his right leg and will be sidelined for about two weeks. The Reds already have first basemen Hal Morris and Brian Hunter on the disabled list because of torn hamstrings.

Meanwhile, Red pitcher John Smiley, the league leader with a 9-1 record, was added to the league’s All-Star roster Saturday as an injury replacement for Atlanta star Greg Maddux.

Boston third baseman Tim Naehring separated his left shoulder diving for a ground ball Saturday night against Minnesota and is listed as day to day. . . . The Oakland Athletics called up left-hander Doug Johns from triple-A Edmonton to make his major league debut against the Toronto Blue Jays, then sent him back to Edmonton after the game. Johns lasted three innings before being ejected for throwing behind the back of Toronto’s John Olerud. The A’s designated left-handed reliever Dave Leiper for assignment. When Johns was sent back to Edmonton, the A’s recalled right-handed pitcher Don Wengert from Edmonton. . . . Right-hander Bill Swift recent bout with flu has him listed as having an outside chance to start today for the Colorado Rockies. . . . The Baltimore Orioles optioned left-handed pitcher Rick Krivda to triple-A Rochester and recalled right-hander Joe Borowski from double-A Bowie. Krivda made one start Friday against the White Sox.
