Two people in the Antelope Valley narrowly escaped death in separate incidents Sunday when they were rescued from swimming pools and revived, authorities said.

Joshua Vivanco, 5, was found floating in a crowded pool at Oasis Park in the 9700 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Acton just after 2 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Smith.

Joshua was pulled from the water by a lifeguard. An off-duty Los Angeles firefighter at the pool performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the child--who was not breathing--and revived him, Smith said.

“The kid just spit up water, started breathing and crying,” Smith said. “He definitely saved his life.”

The boy was in good condition at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, a nursing supervisor said.

About the same time in Lancaster, a physically disabled man floating on a raft at a private swimming pool in the 45300 block of Saigon Avenue flipped over and fell into the water, said Deputy Jonathan White.

The 25-year-old man, who is unable to walk on his own, immediately was pulled from the water by his mother, but he had already stopped breathing and had no pulse, White said.

Deputies David Reddish and Richard Nolte arrived at the house, performed CPR, and were able to revive the man, whose name was not released. He was in serious condition at Antelope Valley Hospital, a nursing supervisor said.
