Temperatures rising? Snoopy’s to the rescue.

Hunter Fan Co. of Memphis, Tenn., offers a three-blade, four-foot-diameter ceiling fan that looks like the World War I Sopwith Camel flown by Snoopy, the cartoon beagle created by Charles Schulz, to combat the Red Baron (about $200).

It’s one of the five models introduced this year by the company, which reproduces styles of fans popular in the 1880s and a baseball-themed whirler that has blades shaped like bats and a light in the form of a ball suspended from a catcher’s mitt. There is also one with a halogen light that is ideal for a kitchen setting and another that has a remote thermostatic control to keep room temperatures pleasant.

Hunter fans are available at home improvement centers throughout the county. For a free brochure, call (800) 971-3267.

Tribal Spirit

Paloma Picasso’s unique sense of color, shape and line make a bold statement on six wallpaper designs and 15 fabrics for Motif Designs of New Rochelle, N.Y.

The Afrique collection was inspired by native Kraal dwellings, Kuba clothes and tribal artifacts, she says.

“I love the boldness of the designs,” Picasso says. “I have become fond of African art, especially sculptures and fabrics. The abstract quality and ethnic appearance of the patterns give a balance to my collections.”

Picasso has created the patterns using either strong contrasts of black on neutrals or tone on tone. She combined both elements “and added some fantasy” for the African Bird.

The fabrics are cotton/linen weaves, silks and cottons. The wallpapers (from $50 to $200 per 27-inch-wide double roll) are pre-trimmed, washable, strippable and printed on vinyl-coated grounds.
