SIMI VALLEY : Aid for 1st-Time Home Buyers Offered
First-time home buyers looking for affordable housing in Simi Valley can find help through a program sponsored by the Cabrillo Economic Development Corp. in conjunction with the Simi Valley Community Development Agency.
Applications will be accepted beginning July 29 for Apricot Ranch, a development of 22 three-bedroom homes to be built on Apricot Road east of Tapo Street.
The city has established an affordable housing program with specific purchase guidelines, including income limitations and resale restrictions, officials said. Residents who live or work in Simi Valley will have priority over the general public.
A minimum grant of $15,000 per unit, plus a deferred loan of $27,500 with no interest, will be available to assist families in the purchase of the homes, sales agent Joanne Seaton said.
For those who qualify, permission to buy a house will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, Seaton said.
The sales office will be in the Mitchell Co. building at 2468 Tapo Canyon Road in Simi Valley. An appointment may be scheduled by calling Seaton at 522-0026.
