Fleiss ‘em, Fleece ‘em

So many letters (May 21) belittled Dr. Paul Fleiss, Heide’s father, and his family for varying digressions (“Did Father Know Best?” by Shawn Hubler, April 9), yet not one reader pointed out the absurdity of the following situation: A man’s daughter, driving her father’s car and covered by his insurance, suffers a non-debilitating injury in an accident in which she was at fault. She then becomes moderately wealthy by suing her own insurance company for pain and suffering and punitive damages.

Using that logic, a struggling small-business operator need never again go bankrupt. He or she simply incorporates, becomes a hired employee of the corporation, gets hurt and subsequently gets a six-figure settlement from workers’ comp.

I guess I just don’t get it.
