OJAI : County Lions Club to Clean Up Park
- Share via
More than 200 members of the Ventura County Lions Club will be on hand this weekend to help clean up Dennison Park in the Upper Ojai. But the group is encouraging more residents to volunteer in the sprucing up of the rustic but neglected park and campground.
Last year, club leaders formed the nonprofit Lions Dennison Park Foundation to operate the facility, which has been closed for nearly eight years because of lack of funding.
On Memorial Day weekend, Lions Club members converged for the first major cleanup of the park and its 36 campsites, which had become overgrown with weeds and fallen oaks.
This weekend’s cleanup will start at 7:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and last most of both days. Volunteers will use chain saws, weed cutters and other hand tools to clear roadways, a children’s playground, picnic areas, restrooms and campsites. The Lions Club hopes to have the park up and running by autumn.
