A 32-year-old woman was fatally stabbed early Tuesday and a man who lived with her has been arrested, police said.

Carlos Manuel Pacheco, 27, called Anaheim police just before 4 a.m. Tuesday, saying that he had hurt his girlfriend and needed help, said Lt. Ted Labahn. When authorities arrived at the Monte Verde Apartments in the 600 block of North Loara Street, they found Leticia Herrejon on the living room floor, bleeding profusely, Labahn said. She died at Anaheim Memorial Hospital after multiple stab wounds, police said.

Pacheco was arrested on suspicion of murder and bail was set at $250,000, Labahn said.

“We have absolutely no idea why he did it,” Labahn said.

Louisa Meza, a neighbor, said Herrejon was rarely home. Meza said she saw more of Herrejon’s 3-year-old daughter.

“We hardly ever saw her,” said Meza, whose daughter played with Herrejon’s little girl. “She revealed little about her life, but was friendly in a neighbor kind of way.”

Pacheco, who is unemployed, watched the child, Meza said.

Meza, who didn’t know Herrejon until they became neighbors, said she has known Pacheco for about eight years.

“It was just a coincidence that he moved in with Herrejon and I knew him,” Meza said. “I just saw him there one day. They fought on and off, nothing out of the ordinary, and nothing outrageous. This is very shocking and very surprising.”

Meza said she was awakened by police about 4 a.m. and that Herrejon’s daughter, who had followed them to her apartment, refused to leave Meza until she was released to a relative.

“I really don’t think she knew what was going on,” Meza said.
