OVERCLASS CLASS: Where have all the Yuppies gone? Some have become the nation’s new Overclass--the influential of the Baby Boom generation. . . . Chosen among the Overclass 100 this week by Newsweek was Ventura’s Yvon Chouinard, founder of the Patagonia clothing firm. . . . A spokesman said Chouinard, who was mountain climbing, wouldn’t mind the magazine’s elite designation because it “mentioned that 1% of our annual gross goes to environmental causes. That’s certainly something he’d want other companies to follow.”

The young actor playing Jesus Christ at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza this week has a surfer’s cut (B4). . . . “It’s not your standard angelic portrayal of Jesus,” said Justin Lees-Smith, a 19-year-old from Newbury Park who plays Jesus. “It’s a nice twist. This play is about forgetting stereotypes.” . . . The Young Artists Ensemble presentation of “Jesus Christ Superstar” opens Thursday and runs through Aug. 5.
DESERT DINGER: As promoters pushed Tuesday for a minor league baseball stadium in Ventura (B2), the Lancaster City Council approved a $10-million stadium (B9). . . . When the Lancaster park opens in the spring, it will be the fourth new Class-A complex in the region since 1991. . . . Ventura’s $70-million baseball stadium/aquatic center/raceway was touted as an attraction that would bring $10 million a year to the city. “That’s serious revenue,” race-car driver Sterling Taylor said.
