38 Injured as 2 Trolleys Collide in Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Two trolleys collided during evening rush hour Tuesday, leaving 37 passengers with minor injuries and a driver hospitalized with chest pains.
One of the two-car trolleys hit the rear of another on an elevated bridge just before a construction zone where trolleys have been slowing down, said Staci Vernick, a Port Authority Transit system spokeswoman.
The injured primarily had bloody noses and whiplash, and two people were treated for broken bones, said John Rowntree, a spokesman for the city Public Safety Department.
A trolley driver was in serious condition with chest pain, said a Mercy Hospital spokeswoman.
