BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Injured DeShields Looking for Answers

Dodger second baseman Delino DeShields, who has sat out six of the last seven games because of an injured left hip which has been ruled sound, had his knee examined by Dr. Ralph Gambardella and Dr. Steve Levy, a neurologist, Wednesday morning.

DeShields, who had his left leg X-rayed, will undergo an MRI test today.

“I’m looking for some help,” DeShields said. “I’m looking for some answers. I guess we’ll get those from the tests.

Chad Fonville replaced DeShields Wednesday night against Atlanta.

Outfielder Raul Mondesi was scratched from the starting lineup 30 minutes before the game after his wife, Ada, went into labor. It was the second game that Mondesi has missed this season.

Todd Hollandsworth, scheduled to start in center field, moved to right, with Roberto Kelly moving from left field to center.

Billy Ashley, who began the season as the Dodgers’ starting left fielder before being replaced by Hollandsworth, started in left. Ashley, hitless in his last 15 at-bats, singled to left in his first at-bat against Atlanta.

Pitcher Hideo Nomo, forced from Tuesday night’s 4-0 loss to the Houston Astros in the fourth inning because of a cracked nail on his right middle finger, is scheduled have a fake nail applied by a manicurist today.
