At an age when most men would have hung up their beach shorts, Mike Dodd, soon to be 38, and teammate Mike Whitmarsh are the leading money-winners on the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals tour, which continues at 9 a.m. today with the $100,000 Seal Beach Open.

Play resumes at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and again at 9 a.m. Sunday, with the finals at 1 p.m.

Dodd has dominated opponents at Seal Beach, winning five tour events there, including three in a row with two partners.

That’s five more times than the grand guru of the pro beach game, top-ranked Karch Kiraly, has won there.

So, it’s no surprise that Dodd and Whitmarsh, coming off a victory last week in Milwaukee, are top-seeded for this weekend’s tournament.

This year, they have won four events, including the $250,000 Cuervo Crown at Clearwater, Fla. in April.
