Ellis Planning to Leave Tustin for El Toro Job
Tim Ellis, former Tustin football coach, says he has been hired as an assistant at El Toro and will resign as a teacher at Tustin.
Ellis was hired as the head coach at Trabuco Hills in March. The Saddleback Valley Unified School District’s board of education approved Ellis, then denied him the job after parents from the school lodged a complaint.
Parents said school officials had not followed proper hiring procedure. The job was reopened and Trabuco Hills’ assistant Bill Crow was hired.
In the meantime, Tustin officials opened the football coach position even though Ellis had not officially resigned. School officials said they considered his accepting another job a resignation.
Ellis will coach the wide receivers at El Toro, which is also in the another Saddleback Valley Unified District.
In two seasons under Ellis, Tustin was 4-16.
